Présentation
Saxophonist and bandleader Robin Verheyen joins forces with two heavyweights of the New York scene, bassist Drew Gress (John Zorn, Fred Hersch) and the legendary Billy Hart (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock). The new trio album ‘Liftoff’ was recorded with Wayne Shorter (1933-2023) in mind, with Verheyen’s dedication piece ‘Saudades’ as the center piece and a reading of ‘Over The Rainbow’ as a reminder of Verheyen’s mastery of the standard repertoire. At 40, Verheyen is considered as one of the top European players and composers, known for his genre crossing contributions, such as the trio MiXMONK, several collaborations with the Goeyvaerts String Trio, and the high energy band TaxiWars along with dEUS frontman Tom Barman. The ‘Liftoff’ release comes with Verheyen’s permanent return to Europe from New York, where he lived and worked since 2007, and will be supported by a European tour, starting 5 March 2025.
