Présentation
For his new project, Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel joins forces with two exceptional musical personalities: Australian double bassist Linda May Han Oh and Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke.
Three musical worlds, three continents, three artists who have each left a profound mark on their instrument come together in a programme where virtuosity and rhythmic power combine with ample space for improvisation. Throughout a genuine musical “trialogue”, the three musicians engage with remarkable freedom and musical rapport.
All three are major figures in contemporary jazz. For many years, Linda May Han Oh has been the double bassist in Pat Metheny’s quartet, while also pursuing a distinguished career leading her own projects. Lionel Loueke, meanwhile, is a key member of Herbie Hancock’s group and has developed a deeply original approach to the guitar, both as a solo artist and with his trio. Wolfgang Muthspiel, whose last four albums were released on ECM, explores another facet of his musical world with this new formation.
Despite their different backgrounds, these three artists share one essential quality: an instantly recognisable sonic identity. When a musician can be identified from the very first note, purely by their sound, it means they have truly found their own voice.
